Making Shopping With Children Easier

By Gary Y. Pearce

Lots of energy and spunky personalities definitely describes my two young daughters. Naturally a three year old and a six year old are going to be rambunctious little bundles of bliss. You can just imagine what a shopping trip is like. For sure, easy is not the word to describe our shopping experiences. There's always some sort of dire catastrophe that overpowers the whole experience. It's even worse when it comes to shopping for clothes and shoes.

It always amazes me that they both hate to try things on so much. I started trying to go shopping by myself but that proved to be even more difficult. Getting away from my sweet little devils was nearly completely impossible, After thinking about the problem, I decided I might as well just go ahead and shop online. When I found what I wanted, I used a Shoebuy coupon that I had found and used it when placing my order. Amazingly it worked out so well I thought I saw the end of my shopping troubles. I ordered a few pairs of shoes for them and a couple for myself. As growing girls it was actually very easy to get the right sizes. I could put shoes away to be hand-me-downs from my oldest to my youngest if I accidentally got a size too small for my oldest. My problem was resolved.

I've tried over and over to be the kind of mother that keeps her calm and cool, but shopping with those two girls was about enough to make my hair fall out. You've got to draw the line somewhere, and for me it was the time my oldest got it in her head to throw a pair of shoes all the way across the department store. Her unruly behavior was totally not permitted. However, what can a parent actually do?

I do still occasionally take them to the stores and shopping, but I don't ever make them try anything on. Hopefully they will outgrow this when they become teenagers. The whole shopping experience is probably going to change completely once they are teenagers anyway.

Until that time, I'm going to order from the Internet in the comfort of my home, having a cup of coffee and not worrying about their behavior. There are no temper tantrums and the whole process is simple and inexpensive. My oldest daughter has even taken a liking to sitting with me sometimes and picking out what she wants.
