Talking About Steam Irons And Their Role In Helping You Make A Good Impression

By Ashley Aileen Jones

A good first impression is often achieved by most people during jobs interviews, first dates, or simply a fancy dinner or special concerts by simply looking their best. And to look good, not only do people need good quality clothing, they must also invest in quality clothes iron like steam irons.

Wearing wrinkle-free clothing has already become a practice engrained into the culture of most communities worldwide. Though no one can say exactly when clothes were began to be pressed smooth, various groups of people from various generations throughout the history have been recorded to use different types of clothes iron. During the 1st Century BC, Chinese people used metal pans filled with charcoal to smoothen their clothes. Come the 17th Century, people were known to use sadirons-thick slabs of delta-shaped cast irons heated in fire-to remove wrinkles from their clothing. Throughout the following years, various designs and systems were incorporated to the pressing irons with the purpose of making pressing clothes easier. By the 1920s, Thomas Sears revolutionized pressing of clothes when he invented the steam iron.

Steam irons are pressing irons that hold and heat water to be emitted as steam on the cloth being pressed. These types of irons uses superheated water-which often is distilled water-to eliminate wrinkles in clothes and fabrics which may not be suitable for traditional dry ironing. Water is held in the iron through a holding tank which also features heating elements that convert water into steam. Then, from the steam iron's soleplate, steam comes out which loosens the individual fibers of the fabric being pressed.

Various systems are featured in various steam irons. Among these is the auto shut-off functionality. This is best for individuals who frequently forget to turn off their devices after use as this function allow the steam iron to automatically turn off when not in use or left motionless. A burst-of-steam button is another feature integrated in some steam irons. This feature allows the iron to emit an extra burst of steam which is great in removing stubborn wrinkles. Some steam irons also feature a steam gauge. A steam gauge allows the user to conveniently adjust the amount of steam as well as the temperature of the iron depending on the type of fabric being pressed. Self-cleaning systems that flush mineral deposits are also included in some steam irons. Other note-worthy features are removable and transparent water reservoirs and retractable power cords.

Steam irons also come in two general types-standard steam irons and cordless irons. Standard steam irons only allow a small amount of steam to be applied while ironing as these irons only feature a small holding tank. Nevertheless, standard types also include features such as auto shut-off, self-cleaning, and temperature controls. Cordless irons, on the other hand, only differ with standard irons with their power supply-a power cord is not being used in these types of irons.

Whichever type of clothes iron we use, whether steam irons or charcoal irons, these devices are deemed indispensable in every household. As such, various manufacturers have produced a number of steam irons people may choose from. Nevertheless, buyers must just make sure to pick the best iron that would help them get their clothes pressing job done effectively and efficiently.
