Look Smart In Your Dress Uniform

By Margaret Burgess

Whether you spend your days knocking door to door selling insurance policies or cosmetics, or wiggle under cars changing drippy oils and fluids, looking your best with a hot to trot work uniform is a career must.

If you work with any type of liquid material like paint or grease, or natural foundation like cement or dirt, purchasing two or three sets of coveralls for work uniforms would be the best protection for your underclothes. This saves you time doing the frustrating work of washing hard to remove stains and dirt from your clothes all the time which can take a lot of time and effort, and sometimes with only limited success.

For the white-collared professional, looking neat and well kept is a career necessity. Regardless of the business you are in, your manner of dressing will be associated with your business reputation and credibility. Keep it simple by purchasing solid color plain or pleated dress pants or slacks work uniforms, then make sure they are regularly laundered and pressed.

For your blouses or shirts, long sleeves with collars and buttoned down will look more businesslike than Ts or short-sleeved shirts. A printed or checkered shirt is an absolute no-no, instead always wear plain and solid colors and light colored pin stripes.

Short-sleeved shirts will be acceptable when the weather is too warm and uncomfortable for long sleeves. Choose shirts with cotton or polyester materials in neutral colors that do not absorb light. Women will look smart dressed in knee or ankle length skirts when going to work in warm weather. Men in business suits or in their uniform shirts of course would look better with a tie. Those who have problems with tying neckties will have to do with clip-on types. Both tie types will look the same so choosing either one will not be a issue. Women can use scarves or neckerchiefs to accessorize their work clothes, the one with a bow in the front especially look smart and stylish. If your company has a theme logo, try to coordinate colors with your choice of accessory. For a professional look, keep any accessories simple and small. With regards to the hair, the ladies can have it in pony tail, or braid it or use pins to keep it away from the face so that it will not interfere with their work.

Regardless of your work condition, you must wear and maintain your dress uniform in the appropriate and expected manner. In casual work environments, wear short sleeve polo shirts with your name clipped or sewn in the designated spot, and during warm days you can wear printed polo shirts or with Hawaiian designs.
