How You Can Buy The Best Pair of Boots

By David Sandford

Consider what sort of boots will best suit your activity. There is a baffling choice of boots available so narrowing down your choice according to what you will be using your boots for will make buying boots an easier task. Climbing boots will be too heavy and stiff for hiking and vice versa. Another example is buying boots you are going to wear for work in an industrial environment. Buying boots without steel toecaps to protect your feet would not be wise.

Consider what your boots should be made out of. What are the most important features for your end use - durability, waterproof, breathable, lightweight or steel toe capped or not?

What you want to use the boot for will impact on what material the boot you buy is made from. If you want boots that look good you cannot go wrong with leather, but if you are going to use your boots in a harsh environment keeping leather boots looking good can be a bit difficult. In this situation you may need to consider boots made with a synthetic hard wearing material instead.

Always try your new boots on with the socks that you plan to wear whilst walking. Walk around the shop for as long as you can to ensure that they really do fit well. Before going out for your hiking boots make sure that your feet have swollen to their maximum size. Your feet are smaller when you first get up, so do not go shopping for boots being on your feet for a few hours.

Do not rush when you are buying boots they are quite an expensive item, so should be viewed more as an investment than a purchase. Take your time and you will end up with the right pair for you rush and you will end up shopping for boots again within a few months.
