Nine - 1950s Halloween Costumes Don't Have To Conform

By Aidan Gabriel

We can bring those 'good old days' back with '50s Halloween costumes that you and the entire family can wear this year. Hot rod cars, poodle skirts and greaser wigs are all nice; but you can still create '50s Halloween Costumes without them. With no hot rod cars to speak of, you can slip on a cool costume that will put you in the remembrance of the '50s just the same. Won't it be fun to create '50s Halloween costumes for everyone in the family?

As long as you remember a few simple rules, you can make your '50s Halloween costumes as unique as you want. And don't let the social divisions of the day stall your efforts in choosing a design style to follow. The 50s have long gone; go with costumes that you will feel most comfortable with.

The men may gravitate towards the greaser wig and leather jacket mode to recreate the "Fonzie" inspired character. Another option would be to do the opposite and put on a bowtie while sporting a pocket protector. Pull those pants up to your chest area so those white socks show and you'll represent the nerd version of a '50s Halloween costumes.

Ladies have similar options. There is the obligatory '50s cutesy poodle skirt with a blouse and white socks. Consider making a matching purse or adding a ribbon to your hair to complete the look. If all that wholesome goodness is enough to make you ill, consider the alternative. Play the part of the bad girl instead with tight pants with your own Pink Ladies jacket.

Kids don't need to be left out of the '50s Halloween costumes creation either. I'm sure you can find a poodle skirt in the little girl size; if mom knows her way around a sewing machine, she can make matching skirts with her daughters. It's the same thing with little boys; they can follow after the men in sporting nerd glasses and a little greaser wig as well; what could be cuter than a junior Fonz to go along with the senior version...Eyyy!

So what if you think the '50s were only about conforming; now is your chance to take the bland out of the decade. Jazz up your family's costumes this Halloween. Add extra studs and gems to all the '50s Halloween costumes for a more impressive display.

Another good way to bring your '50s Halloween costumes to life would be for the whole family to come alive in their outfits. Don't just be the girl walking in with your poodle skirt next to the guy with the greaser wig; go that extra mile of trying to speak the language of the 50s while you wear the clothes on Halloween. Give those who come in contact with you the impression you just stepped out of the 50s!

Go all out - make your family's '50s Halloween costumes the best they can be. Simple is good, but a more elaborate design may garner more attention. The outfits should be comfortable and you should allow yourself to be carried back to the 50s, if only for one night. All that's left is to decide if you want to go in the direction of the 'cool' or the 'nerdy' version for all of your '50s Halloween costumes. Enjoy the nostalgia of this night; Halloween won't be back for another year! Edited by Hetsil Protage
