Having SomeStyle And Substance Make My Job Simpler

By Micah H. Hamel

Each and every guy in my workplace is very tall. Really very, amazingly very tall like a giraffe. When I first started working as a journalist at the citywide rag I put up with a lot of pressure to be able to compete. As the sole girl reporter, I realized I'd have to prove myself over and over. I surely wasn't going to permit them get the better of me. Tracking down leads for long hours while on my feet was clearly one of the main job requirements. Making phone calls to generate advertising leads was also a big part of what I did at work. The shoes I had were no way good enough for the work I was doing and I found this out the first day of work. I had some Steve Madden coupons my sister had given me a while ago.
It was her way, I suppose, to subtly nudge me in the direction of updating my current shoes. I'll admit that as a journalist I was usually too busy dealing with deadlines than worrying about my appearance. The job I had before this one was strictly a desk job. At that office I would be at my desk most of the time and I would often just slip my shoes off without any problems. I wasn't going to be able to do that here.

My shoe issues go quite a ways back in my past. I was known to be the girl in school that would wear down her shoes until anyone could see my toes sticking through. To me, shoes are most comfortable when they get worn like that. I am not precisely a style over comfort kind of person.

How I looked wasn't high on my priority list since I always thought that there were some things that were more important. I wanted to make people think. Having people look up to me and listen to what I had to talk about was important. Without the pushing from my younger sister I would have ended up buying another set of comfortable flat in-stylish shoes.

Instead Iamazingly actually ended up buying two pairs of shoes. I got a pair of purple leather pumps and a pair of solid black short pumps. The shoes were both ridiculously comfortable as well. Not only was I going to be strutting around the office in comfort I was going to be looking fierce. I have taken on the role of proving that it's possible to be beautiful, smart and full of verve as well. And best of all, my shoes match my personality.

I've been working at the paper now for over a year.

I've been working at the paper now for over a year. I've made a couple more shopping trips solely for shoes. I completely appreciate how I've learned to combine comfort and amazing fashion style in my choice of shoes as I've gotten better at it. The men I work with may still be a whole lot taller than I am, but none of them can compete with force and personality.
