My Insight On Ruby History

By John S Stewart

In my opinion and that of more responsible jewellers, all Rubies and Ruby Jewellery, including Ruby Rings, Ruby Earrings and Ruby Pendants, should only ever be purchased in the knowledge that have been traded only in an ethical and conflict free manner.

Good luck and extra protection from harm can be gained by the recipient of monthly birthstones. So if you wish to buy a gift containing the birthstone for July then ruby is your number one choice. Also if you are planning to celebrate any sort of anniversary linked to 15th and 40th years, then again choose rubies. From the Latin word for red is where the name ruby was derived, and as far back as Ancient times the ruby gemstones has always been acknowledged as being the "King Of Gems".

Due to its associations with devotion and everlasting love, it is a perfect choice for an eternity ring gift.

Throughout history across India and its neighbors, this gem when worn in rings on the left hand provided magical powers and defence against evil. The more rings the greater the powers.

Gamblers and lovers have always adorned the ruby as their number one choice due to its link with good luck!

The sun has always been linked to the ruby gemstone by many cultures, but other cultures also held it responsible for providing ideas, clotting of the blood, curing other diseases, making you happy, and best of all making you rich!

Ancient warriors thought if they wore ruby jewellery under their armor in battle it would give them far greater strength, increased bravery and immunity from injury. If you had any disease or health problems relating to the stomach or digestive system, then if you ingested powdered ruby it would provide a cure.

The first reported trading of these gems was around 200 years BC by Chinese merchants along the North Silk Road towards Turkey.

In more recent history it was used predominantly, and especially in England, for that of coronation rings by Royalty. The very latest example being the one given by Prince Andrew to the Duchess of York as their engagement ring.

Because rubies are some of the scarcest of precious stones found today, then they obviously achieve higher prices in the market place compared to others. Their deep red colours can make them seem larger than they really are, which helps to counteract the fact that are so expensive when they reach larger sizes.

In modern times the ruby has become used in other things as well as obviously jewellery. Such things include components for lazer rods, watch internals and record player stylus.

I sincerely hope this short resume on the majestic Ruby helps in some way.
