Completely Armless: T Shirts For Men This Summer

By Anthony Slinger

The weather won't be the only thing hotting up this summer, with this season's must-have short sleeve choices, men's designer fashion will also be feeling the heat.

The cotton polo shirt will be back with an army of retro designs from Farah Vintage, Ralph Lauren and Original Penguin with changes in the standard collar shape coming from the shawl necks of Bench and Pretty Green by Liam Gallagher or high necks from Duck & Cover and YMC. The season's trend of colour blocking can be seen on the bold stripe patterns of Superdry and a revitalised LaCoste brand, through alternate sleeves from Omar Kashoura and Fred Perry and also on the collars and trims of Voi, Fila Vintage and Kitsun in their assorted shades.

Short sleeve shirts in high colour from Jil Sander and Paul Smith will be livening up both day and evening wear with the lighter shades from the likes of Penfield and Sparks happily situated above a crisp pair of chinos for a smart casual finish. Simple stripes come courtesy of Phillip Lim and Band of Outsiders with loud Hawaiian prints from the creative minds of Ringspun and Marc by Marc Jacobs plus subtle Pin Dots from Creep by Hiroshi Awai and Universal Works. Check shirts continue to be a big draw either fitted or used in layering, with striking designs coming from Norse Projects, WESC, Le Breve, Cahartt and Gio Goi. For something a little different, there are sleeveless shirts from Raf Simons and Neil Barrett with deviations on collar styles like cowl and high neck from Humor and also double breasted fronts from Asos and asymmetric buttoning from Heritage Research.

T-shirts and vests are expressing their diversity in men's fashion on a range of statement pieces with bold prints and iconic symbols available from Jack & Jones, Stussy, Second Son, Denham and original designs from aspiring graphic artists in the 'Glass' from Glass Boutique collection. Tribute t's are honouring rock royalty and inspirational characters from Worn Free and Amplified, while logos and brand promotion never looked so stylish from Polo by Ralph Lauren and Diesel. T-shirts will also be instrumental in highlighting the nautical theme that is submerged into the coming seasons with mariner nods from Sixpack France, Libertine-Libertine and Vivienne Westwood or variations on the classic blue or red Breton stripes with examples from, Won Hundred, All Saints and Comme Des Garcons.

T-shirts also have an important role to play in layering for those chillier days, making the perfect undershirt; they really are an essential for any wardrobe and outfit choice. Choose a neckline to suit your tastes with new cowl and scoop necks available on the market or go for a classic round, granddad, Y or V-neck as desired, if you are layering a single colour t-shirt makes the ideal choice coming from Rick Owens and Cheap Monday or get more choice from your wardrobe with a reversible from Nonnative Student Face. For daytime casual wear with skinny or slouch jeans or cotton shorts, for a more dressed up look simply accompany with a blazer and chinos or smart jeans.

Team short sleeves with lightweight ankle boots from Converse, Lyle & Scott and Clae, or put with deck shoes from Pointer, pumps or plimsoles from Vans or Common Projects, or with sneakers from Yohji Yamamoto and adidas originals. Alternatively, go open toe with flip flops from Havaianas, Dune and Puma By Hussein Chalayan or strapped sandals from Maison Martin Margiela, Birkenstock and Alexander McQueen to really get in the spirit of summer.
