Choosing Professional Attire For Women

By Jayde Johannsen

When going to an interview or starting a new job there are various guidelines to follow for choosing the right outfit. There are various choices for the professional attire for women that should be worn according to the business setting. Before going on a massive shopping spree, survey the place you are planning to work and see what other people are wearing. Use this as a guideline on how you should dress.

When interviewing for a position, it is the interviewee's opportunity to show the employer what they bring to the table. Having a proper and professional attire is a way to show how serious you are about a given profession. It always shows the way you view and choose to portray yourself.

Business attire often consists of some form of a suit, but in some cases a dress can be worn. A business suit is often slacks or a dress skirt accompanied by a blazer. Neutral colors like navy, dark gray, or black should be chosen. The suit should also fit properly without being too tight or too loose. Also, if choosing a dress or skirt it should be knee length or longer and be worn with stockings.

The clothes you wear are an extension of who you are. People are often judged by the clothing they wear so it is best to dress in a way that represents you that is still professional.Form fitting clothes can possibly give the wrong impression. Clothing trends are constantly changing, but business attire is something that shouldn't stray along with trends.

Fabric and patterns also have an effect on how others will judge your appearance. Natural fabrics should be chosen over synthetic patterns as they tend to last longer. Neutral patterns are usually better than patterns, but subtle vertical stripes can add flair to a suit.

When choosing a blouse to go along with the suit, it is best to choose a long sleeve blouse with a v-neckline. It is never appropriate to show any kind of cleavage so plan accordingly. You can add flair to an outfit with French cuffs or special buttons.

The best way to complete an outfit is with proper accessories and shoes. Also, when wearing a skirt be sure to wear sheer nylons that match your skin color. When choosing jewelry as an accessory be sure to avoid things that dangle and stick closely to classic timeless pieces. Make sure not to choose distracting jewelry. When choosing shoes a closed toe or peekaboo shoe can often do the trick. Make sure you know how to walk in the shoes before wearing them anywhere.
