How To Make A Girl Princess Costume From Scratch

By Christine Carroll

Every little girl wants to be a princess and not just for Halloween, either. You can have a great time with your little girl princess costume and it's easy to make your own with a few essential ingredients. There are many occasions to dress up, even just during playtime with friends.

The first thing to look at is the dress. If you can, get a lovely princess dress from the costume place or toy store. Alternatively, a party dress will do the trick. Plenty of jewels are in order and you can add these with stick on jewels. These look best scattered across the skirt, or around the neck and cuffs.

Ribbons and bows can also be added to dresses for a more elegant look. Keep some different ribbons on hand, satin and velvet are the most beautiful. These can be turned into bows, or you can buy your own ready made ones and attach each one to the dress. Ribbon is also handy as a hair tie or even for a sash. Having several types on hand will give your princess a nice selection to choose from.

Your little girl will also need to have the right shoes. Ballet slippers work very well when they have to, especially if you add on some glittery stones and ribbon. Or you can look at the plastic slippers that are offered in costume stores. These look like crystal and are just beautiful.

Next the crown is a very necessary part of this costume. You can make your own from cardboard, decorated with stick on jewels, or use craft foam and glitter. Sparkly pipe cleaners are also a good way to go and can be twisted to create more interesting shapes. There are also plastic or tin tiaras sold wherever you find costumes, so there are lots of choices.

Finally, a wand is a great touch for anyone who is missing their fairy godmother. Take a stick or wooden spoon and decorate it with glitter and ribbons for a cute wand.

Little girls love to dress up and with all the movies out there about royalty, it's no surprise they like to dress like their favorite princesses. While you can really make a princess out of anything you have in the house, if she wants to look like Belle or Cinderella, she'll need specific colors and costumes. These are usually available online or in costume stores. Look for deals just after Halloween, but realize that a girl princess costume is great any time of year!
