Know All About Emerald Colour

By John S Stewart

The wonderful colour that Emerald Rings, Emerald Pendants and Emerald Earrings show, as well as all other types of Emerald Jewellery, has been said by may to symbolise the colour of life and eternal springtime. From first being linked to the Roman God known as Venus, their God of love and beauty, it has been linked ever since by many other civilizations all over the World as a symbol of beauty and everlasting love and romance.

The green colour of emerald is present in many flags of the Arab countries that links them all by unity and faith, and it is known to be the holy colour of Islam. It is also known to be the most natural and virtuous of all colours within the Catholic Church.

Throughout all history this beautiful colour has been linked with providing harmony and leading to peoples love of natural things, and the human eye was thought to not be able to see through it. The Roman philosopher Pliny said "that people could look at this colour without ever becoming tired", because it was always fresh and vivid and never the same in hue. Although this colour does change slightly from daylight to artificial light, it always retains its basic colour shade and lively lustre.

Some emeralds do in fact have yellow or blue overtones, but most are found in a variety of different lovely greens, although they will loose colour if they are heated dramatically.

When looking to purchase these stones, then colour is always the most important aspect of their make up when relating to prices. "Grass green" or "emerald green" are usually the descriptions used for the best colour of emerald gemstones.

Historically the very best colour of emeralds have mostly come form the mines in Columbian districts. They are not too dark or too light, or contain a higher than preferred amount of yellow or blue colour saturation. They are said to be "glowing" in their colour when viewed by the naked eye.

If you are lucky enough to have emeralds or emerald jewellery, then please make sure you do not hide them away. All jewellery should be worn and flaunted to their maximum, and emerald is definitely emeralds are no exception.
