Buying Shoes For Comfort

By Kathleen Burch

Fit, durability and style are the key factors to look for when purchasing mens footwear. The top criteria, however, must be comfort. You wear shoes first and foremost because of need and not for show, so you must be comfortable when wearing one. Ill-fitting shoes will not only be very uncomfortable but can actually cause damage to your feet.

So when men look and the style and quality of the shoes first, it is only the preparatory steps to making the purchase based on the fit. All shoemakers know this and make it a point to combine comfort and style as much as possible. Expensive shoes with name brands are not worth a thing if it will just give you a hard time.

In reality, buying wearable and stylish shoes is not really that difficult. In order to get a proper fit, you should shop for shoes later in the day, when your feet are larger, and be sure that the brands you try on aren't too tight. You should be able to wiggle your toes. Another thing, don't rely too much on your old shoe size, it would be much better if you get a new measurement every time you buy a new pair of shoes. Furthermore, the right foot is more often than not larger than the left foot, or it can be the other way around. The shoes should fit the larger foot comfortably.

How Do They Fit?

Try the fit of a shoe wearing socks even if you do not normally wear socks because you can never tell if an occasion will come when you have to wear one. Make sure you try on both shoes, and walk around the store a bit before purchasing. Don't try on shoes and walk around without buckling or tying on the laces if there any. The shoes must not only fit, but should bend in conformity to the bend of your feet. Don't rely too much on the assumption that leather shoes will fit more snugly after being broken it, if the shoes don't fit well, then it doesn't, period. You should have no problem wearing them even while brand new.

An experienced sales person in a store with a knowledgeable staff can help you find the right fit and the right styles for your needs. The store staff should also be handy if you have specific needs such as arch support for your flat feet, or in recommending brands that have special features.
